Australian Life in the 1950s
In the 1950s Australian lifestyle and living standards were relatively high. Being untouched by the Second World War and after suffering through the Great Depression, our primary industries were supplying Great Britain and Europe with much of what they needed to recover from the World war. Due to the huge demand of supplies from overseas countries, the Australian economy benefitted from it, Australia were able to enjoy a high standard of living. Australians were spending money, going to parties, adoping fashion and having fun. Because of the huge demand for materials, factories employed more people meaning employment rates were high and Australia was a place of prosperity and opportunity.
During this time shiploads of immigrants were arrving from Britain and Europe to build a better life after the destruction of the war. Immigrants wanted to families here where they would prosper. This lead to Australia's mulit-culturalism.
