British Influences

"The British do not expect happiness. I had the impression, all the time that i lived there, that they do not want to be happy; they want to be right."
Quentin Crisp

HOME
British influence was probably the first influence that ever affected Australia. Europeans after all settled and colonized Australia. British influences was the biggest influence in Australia before WWII. Before WWII Australia's biggest ally was Britain, but because of the events of WWII Britain couldn't afford to send help to Australia while it was fighting it own battles against Germany in Europe. Australia was left alone to fight for itself in the Pacific against Germany's ally Japan. Australia however lacked fighitng power and therefore signed an alliance with America and this is why America after WWII influenced Australia more than Britian did. Some things Britian influenced in Australia was:
- Flag ( Union Jack)
- Main Language ( English)
- Basis of Australia's legal and political systems
